Types of ATVs

There exist four types of ATVs on the market today. Some of them are engineered specifically for hunting and hauling, some are for off-road racing, and the rest for riding on very intense terrain. So, whichever ride you choose, there is an ATV specialized to up your experience. The following is an exploration of the four different types of four-wheelers.

1. Utility ATVs

These are the most popular type of ATVs. They are designed to be tough, durable, and powerful with big motors and more able accessories. This makes them very useful for a hunter, working man, or woman.

The engine sizes for Utility ATVs (UTVs) generally range from 800cc to over 1,000cc. Their exceptional towing capabilities and cargo capacity make them very useful in farm and/or ranch activities, especially where using trucks is impossible or impractical. With its power, hauling animal feeds and equipment becomes easy. Electric ATVs are even better for hunting since they can move more quietly.

2. Sport ATVs

These are amazing ATVs for sports people, just like the name suggests. Sport ATVs are designed with speed and have very responsive engines. Extra attention is given to their design, to achieve the lightest weight possible. Generally, their engine sizes don’t exceed 7000cc. Their travel suspensions are incredible because of one pretty good reason; to take riders where other off-road vehicles can’t.

In addition, sports ATVs can be modified to have the aesthetic you want them to and the performance you will surely enjoy. Some of the common modifications made on these ATVs include those of clutch kits, nerf bars and exhausts.

Sport ATVs are also given the capability to tackle jumps, turns, and bumps, all for the sake of taking your fun time to the next level. They are mainly used for racing due to their speed and suspension advantages over the other types of ATVs.

3. Side-by-Side (S x S) UTVs

Side-by-side ATVs sometimes referred to as Rhinos, are the biggest type, about the size of a golf cart. They are off-road vehicles that have seating spaces for two people, side by side. They are also lightweight and have a short wheelbase.

When you feel like driving off-road with family and friends, then a side-by-side is your best option. It has power and agility pretty equal to that of a sport ATV, only that its motor is even more powerful. This is mostly because it is designed to carry passengers and cargo. On top of that, side-by-side ATVs, of all the four ATV types mentioned here, have the ablest travel suspension.

ATVs for children have slight power, and transmission is automatic. This automated way saves them the trouble of fussing with gear changing. The engine sizes for this category of ATVs range from 50cc to 110cc. In some cases, the engine sizes go up to 125cc. They have little power and their travel suspensions are on the shortest side; others have no suspensions at all. While others have automated transmission, others have no gears. Weight limits for these ATVs range from 100 to 150 pounds, a variation that depends on the make or model.

The ATVs designed for youths have negligible travel suspension and cannot ride well on very rough terrain. It is thus safer to ride on smooth paths. They are usually designed for riders who have little or no experience at all, in riding four-wheelers.

Choosing the right four-wheeler might not be easy sometimes because there are many things to consider, including cost, trails you want to ride on, and your intended uses. With the above list, we believe you find all the information you will require to make the best decision.
