The Dodge Tomahawk

Are you a Dodge fan? Do you happen to be interested in wacky cars that are sold in short numbers?

If so, you need to learn about the Dodge Tomahawk. This rarely seen and sold motorbike defies the industry standard of efficiency.

That is, while most automobile manufacturers try to reduce emissions, engine sizes, and power output, this piece of art doesn’t!

What is the Tomahawk: A Motorcycle or a Car

Tomahawk is a Viper V-10 based motorcycle.

This bike carries a 500BHP engine, and it comes with an aluminium billet chassis. It’s also a bike with 4 wheels under it, making it quite large. Plus, the engine gets it air through two throttle bodies’ placed right to the front.

Basically, Dodge Tomahawk is a hybrid between a car and bike (through it functions like a motorbike). That is, it’s a motorbike bike with 4 wheels!

Plus, it is rear wheel drive too. And with 500 horsepower backing up this motorbike, this can be dangerous. But fortunately, the Tomahawk does come with a body weight of 680 KG, so that power has weight to ground it.

Each of this bike’s wheels are split apart by independent suspension systems, allowing the four wheels to better handle the bike’s power.

How Rare Is It?

Believe it or not, this bike was unveiled as far back as 2003. And that was done at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show.

Are they selling Dodge Tomahawk?

Only a few units were built. But those that were on display were a menace. After all, the Tomahawk does come with a V10 engine. And it’s one that rumbles louder and deeper than the majority of bikes!

Working on that bike was a pleasure for Dodge’s design team. Even Chrysler’s COO (Wolfgang Bernhard) claimed he was excited about the project.

In fact, much effort was put into building those machines, costing $100,000 each (though their intended MSRP was $200,000).

As for production, only 4 units were made. They were all manufactured by the RM sport shop. On is owned by dodge, a second by RM sport’s CEO, and two were sold to private collectors.

As for the price tag? Each of the private collectors paid ½ million dollars per motorbike!

Fun Fact: Dodge Tomahawk isn’t Street Legal.

It’s the reason why only 4 were built.

The law forbids motorbikes to be street legal if they have more than 3 wheels. Plus, the Tomahawk is quite dangerous to use. So there’s always the risk of safety lawsuits if this bike were to ever be sold.
